With regards to healthcare, figures show that the maternal mortality rate for black women in the UK is four times that of white women.
This is why the Kent & Medway Primary Care Training Hub has taken the opportunity of BHM to provide information and links to general practices to help support and guide black women in their pregnancy and maternity journey. Resources are:
- Meet Trish Mugwangi, Equity and Equality Lead and Professional Midwife Advocate. Trish shares the experiences of people from BAME and minority backgrounds during maternity and labour and explained how Primary Care can help (video).
- Pregnancy – Supporting patients from Minority Ethnic Backgrounds
- The Pregnancy Journey – informative poster to order for your waiting room.
There will be events (Women Who Lead – 10th October and Sheroes Amongst Us – 18th October) in Kent and Medway to celebrate Black History Month open to all. Please book your place beforehand.
