The Pharmacy Team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) has launched the ‘coach a pharmacist prescriber’ (CAPP). A free online platform in Kent and Medway where independent prescribers (IPs) and trainee pharmacists will be supported by experienced multi-professional prescribers (this includes both medical and non-medical prescribers). Other regions are also able to subscribe to the platform.
Thank you to those of you who have already registered on the platform.
We are anticipating a significant demand for coaches and designated prescribing practitioner (DPP) due to the number of pharmacists and trainee pharmacists undertaking prescribing training and therefore please do register if you have not already done so.
If you have any queries or experience issues during the registration process, please email us on
mtw-tr.cappenquiries@nhs.net or attend one of the drop-in sessions below:

Who can register on this platform?
As a coach and DPP:
– Doctors
– Any healthcare professional who is a nonmedical prescriber e.g. nurse, pharmacist or allied health professional.
To be coached:
– Pharmacist trainees seeking a DPP to complete their independent prescribing course
– Pharmacists looking for coaching in prescribing.
There is no formal training requirement to act as a coach but DPPs will need to meet the competency
requirements of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society DPP Competency Framework.
What does the platform offer?
– The platform will ‘match’ IP pharmacists and trainee pharmacists to a coach to support prescribing
– A coach will provide coaching on a clinical practice-based problem.
– The platform will match IP trainees to a DPP based on their requirements and location
– A DPP will provide supervision required for the trainee to complete the IP course.
The platform is currently only to support pharmacist prescribers, we anticipate that the next phase of the
project will encompass supporting multi-professional prescribers.
