NHS Kent & Medway, Medway Council and Medway College are running a series of fully funded, Positive Behaviour Support Awareness+ training courses starting in September 2023. These courses are available for those who provides direct support to individuals with or without additional behavioural behaviours that challenge in Kent and Medway. These will be held vir-tually via Teams.
What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?
The overall aim of PBS is to improve the quality of life of individuals and those around them, it is an evidence based approach to supporting people who may or may not be displaying behaviours that challenge. It seeks to understand the reasons for the behaviour so that unmet needs can be met. It’s proactive and preventative, focusing on the teaching of new skills to help individuals participate.
Course Outline:
The one day Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Awareness+ course provides an overview of, and introduction to, PBS; it covers the core components and principles of PBS and some pro-active approaches to supporting behaviour. It also gives participants an understanding of the underpinning values, theory and processes that are part of the PBS approach.
Learning Outcomes:
Completion of this course should give participants a basic understanding of the following:
- Provide an insight into what PBS is and some of the tools used as part of it
- Increase understanding of behaviour which challenges and potential functions
- Provide some useful tools and signposts to use with those you support

All courses will run over two mornings, 9:30am-13:00pm each session. (Please note you will need to attend both dates to complete the training)
