Officially Funded Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) training is now available for primary care nurses for the first time, giving them the chance to develop advanced skills in leadership, reflection, and staff wellbeing. The training, delivered through multiple universities between October 2025 and March 2026, supports nurses eligible for Level 7 study who can commit to all taught sessions.
Applicants will need line manager approval and can apply through the online Expression of Interest form, with places prioritised on a first-come basis.
NHS England South East – PNA Placement Expression of Interest Form (EOI) – September 2025
The PNA role equips nurses to lead restorative clinical supervision, improve team resilience, and enhance the wellbeing of colleagues across general practice. Where PNAs are already embedded, practices have seen stronger peer support and improved morale across their teams. This initiative is a major step in recognising and investing in the leadership contribution of general practice nurses within the wider NHS workforce.
Please see instructions on filling the EOI form out below via the Nursing & Professions team:
“We are asking all PNA Leads to complete the MS Form, whether or not you are taking part in placements:
If you are not taking part ( as a surgery) please select “No” and provide a brief rationale. This will help us understand any challenges, barriers, or support in place, and enable us to provide constructive feedback.
If you are taking part, please complete the section of the form that allows you to nominate up to five nurses. We kindly ask that, where possible, you prioritise filling placements for the earlier cohorts, as these are the most challenging to finalise.
