Kent & Medway ICB have funded a course on Medicines use in care homes 1 – High quality e-learning courses from PrescQIPP. This e-learning package is designed to support practice staff working with care homes.
Practice staff (GPs, pharmacists, technicians, NMPs) can access this by following the instructions below:
- To be able to access the training, the practice will need to email the ICB Medicines Optimisation Team (kmicb.moprojects@nhs.net)
- Information will be provided on how to register and obtain a password.
- This course supports the implementation of recommendations in the NICE guideline on managing medicines in care homes.
- Course content – The e-learning course has 13 modules, three case studies and with an exam (where a certificate of completion will be issued).

- Module 3 The Medicines Administration Record
- Module 4 General principles of medicines administration
- Module 5 The monthly medicines cycle
- Module 6 Self administration
- Module 7 Administration of “when required” medicines
- Module 8 Administration of solid doses
- Module 9 Administration of liquids
- Module 10 Administration of inhalers
- Module 11 Application of topical products
- Module 12 Administration of transdermal patches
- Module 13 Administration of eye drops
