Education Support Team
Who we are – KMPCTH
The Kent & Medway Primary Care Training Hub (KMPCTH) work collaboratively to meet the educational and training needs of the current and future multi-professional Primary Care workforce. Our aim is to support, develop and help retain our workforce enabling them to deliver the best patient care for our Kent & Medway communities.
The KMPCTH consists of a team of professionals supporting multi-disciplinary placement inquiries. The team has a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting pre-registration learners from various disciplines.
The KMPCTH support General Practice, Primary Care Networks, GP Federations and Primary Care led Urgent Treatment Centres, to manage and facilitate placement opportunities within their own organisations.
Placement Educators:
The type of educator you need will depend on your profession.
Nursing Students and Student Nursing Associates must be supported by both a Practice Assessor and a Practice Supervisor throughout their placement. Each area accepting students will employ, at minimum, a Practice Supervisor, and either directly employ Practice Assessors or ensure their availability within the Primary Care Network. The NMC Standards for student supervision and assessment provides an oversight of each role.
Allied Health Professional (AHP) learners have a profession specific Practice Educator to oversee their learning. Within Primary Care a Practice Educator may be provided by a different organisation provider or your university. NHS England has published a Guide to Practice Based Learning for Allied Health Professional (AHP) Students in Education to support educators and learners.
Trainee pharmacists require a Designated Supervisor (DS) who is responsible for the overall supervision and management of educational progress during training and end of training sign off. They must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and meet the specified requirements to be a trainee’s named DS.
A trainee may also have Practice Supervisors who provide the day-to-day supervision for trainees, providing developmental feedback within specific placements. Examples of a Practice Supervisor can include GP, RN, AHP, pharmacist and a pharmacy technician.
