Complimenting the National bundle of care for CYP asthma programme and QOF 2023-2024, Medway & Swale Health and Care partnership have developed evidence-based bite size sessions to support primary care with the management of CYP asthma care. Led by our clinical lead for CYP asthma, the sessions are tailored to the needs of the practice, allowing for discussion regarding case studies and questions that may arise.

Who are they for? These sessions are suitable for GP’s, ACP, NMP, CNS, Nurses, AHP, Students and anyone with an interest/supporting CYP with asthma.

How long are the sessions? The sessions can last between 1 hour – 1.5 hours (depending on staff availability)

When? The sessions will be held on a date and time of your choosing.

Venue: The AAT are face to face and are usually held at your setting. The space required is a room big enough to seat the attendees.

The sessions include hot topics such as:

  • Diagnosis
  • Asthma reviews – what should be included
  • Asthma guidelines
  • Prescribing – escalation/de-escalation of treatment
  • Medication – MDI/DPI, spacers, correct treatment pathways, administration, MART
  • Objective testing – PEF, Spirometry, FeNO
  • Other supporting information – use of symptom diaries, in check dials
  • Transition
  • Triggers and how to support CYP/families
  • Housing conditions – how damp and Mould can affect asthma control, who to sign post to
  • Additional resources – signposting and referrals
  • Escalation of care – when to refer into secondary care
  • PAAP
  • Nebulisers – dangers of home nebulisers, how to escalate concerns
  • Safeguarding – DNA Vs was not bought policy, poorly controlled asthma (could it be safeguarding)

The training sessions are completely FREE.
