The Kent Surrey and Sussex Primary Care Simulation Faculty were absolutely delighted to receive a High Commendation in the recent HSJ Patient Safety awards in the Urgent and Emergency Care Safety Initiative of the year category for their project “Bridging the Gap: enhancing emergency preparedness General Practices in Kent Surrey and Sussex through translational simulation to improve patient safety.”
The entry was written and submitted by Dr Jane Roome (Associate Dean and Locality Training Hub Lead, West Kent), Judith Marsh (Clinical Lead, Kent and Medway Primary Care Training Hub) and Dr Nikki Chatfield (GP and Clinical Lead for the Kent and Medway Primary Care Training Hub mentor scheme). The award is a recognition of the significant impact the faculty has had, and continues to have, on improving patient safety within GP practices in KSS and particularly in Kent and Medway. The faculty remains unique in the UK by being multiprofessional and that members all work within primary care.

“I was delighted to hear that your work was recognised recently at the HSJ awards. It’s no surprise to me. I’ve lost count of the number of times I have pointed to the outstanding work that your team is doing in KSS, both practically in delivering simulation experiences for primary care and also as leaders in simulation, recognised regionally and nationally. You’ve developed a framework for delivering outstanding simulation in challenging contexts and environments, and I know that the team’s work inspires others around the country. Perhaps most importantly, you support and develop the next generation of simulation educators and leaders, both within your faculty and beyond. I do not doubt that patients will benefit enormously from this.
Please extend my thanks to your whole team for all the work that you do.”
