GPs can order genetic tests for certain conditions; below are resources and links to help with this. GPs can directly order genetic tests, without needing to refer to clinical genetics, for the following:
– Cystic Fibrosis carrier testing
– Hereditary haemochromatosis
– Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
All genetic tests are funded centrally so there is no cost to your practice, and they are provided for you by the NHS South East Genomic Medicine Service.
Please visit the GMSA website to find a video, FAQs and links to everything you need to order these tests quickly and easily.

In areas using DXS as a referral platform, the test request form , record of discussion and the FAQ document can be found in the genetics folder so they are accessible and auto-populate with your patient details.
Further support is available via GeNotes (In the Clinic) which offers a practical scenario-based education resource to support primary care managing patients who have a problem where genomic medicine may be relevant.
If you need further support, you can get in touch via A&G or directly.
