What is Social Prescribing?
Many things that affect our health cannot be treated by doctors or medicine alone, like loneliness, isolation or stress due to problems with debt or housing. Social prescribing
connects people to non-medical support to address these issues and other unmet needs.

Get involved with Social Prescribing Day – 26 March 2026
Social Prescribing Day is an annual global celebration dedicated to the people, organisations and communities that make social prescribing possible. Since its launch in 2019, thousands of link workers, healthcare professionals, academics, students and community groups from across the world have come together to recognise the positive impact of social prescribing on individuals and local communities.
The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) is responsible for coordinating the UK celebrations which will take place on Thursday 26 March 2026.. The day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of what social prescribing is, how it works and the ways it helps improve health and wellbeing by connecting people to non-medical support such as community activities, social groups and local services. Each year, we join forces to host events, share ideas and highlight real-life stories that demonstrate how social prescribing can change lives.
Together, we want to raise awareness of what social prescribing is, how it works, and how it changes lives.
For Social Prescribing Day 2026, organisations and individuals are encouraged to get involved by hosting events, sharing their work on social media tagging NASP on social media and promote their initiatives through local and national media. Anyone planning an event can submit details to be included in weekly updates by emailing communications@nasp.info, and a dedicated toolkit is available to support participation, offering guidance, resources and graphics for the campaign. When taking part, supporters are encouraged to use the hashtag #SocialPrescribingDay to help amplify awareness and celebrate the collective impact of social prescribing worldwide.
